Modern Warfare Tips

Post by EmberSparks » Tue May 04, 2010 2:08 am

Modern Warfare 2 is th-DAKKA DAKKAaaaaaaargh!... the kind of game in which you die suddenly, and a lot. It's an ineviGRAAAAAAGH!tibility of contemporary weapons technology: things kill people fast. If you haven't spotted your assailant when he opens fire, it's foom...OOM!-bad news. In some cases, unfortunately, you'll die to weapons you haven't yet unlocked, such as the dual-wielded BANGBANG My precious face! shotguns with their improbable range. But this guide won't assume you have any of those: a lot of powerful stuff is unlocked surprisingly early on, and I'll tell you snick - blurgh exactly when you get them.

Early on, don't fret too much about getting back to the battlefield when you die. Unless you clearly saw what happened and why, take a second or two to watch the KillCam. The best players have found fiendish players to lurk in, and some of your most bloody sprees will come from simply getting there before them next time.

Similarly, bear in mind that you can always grab the weapon of any fallen soldier, and when you're starting out this is almost always better than yours. In the average game, you're bound to find a few dual shotguns or high-level assault rifles with twin attachments already fitted.

Stopping power
Stopping Power. Stopping Power Stopping Power, Stopping Power. It's a perk available from the start. and it's all any hot-blooded soldier will ever want in that slot. That's because Stopping Power increases your bullet damage, and nothing really trumps that. Every time you lose a head-to-head firing match without Stopping Power, it's because you didn't have Stopping Power. Get Stopping Power. Stopping Power.

Go commando
Commando basically lets you win every very close range encounter with someone who doesn't have Commando. It extends the range of your insta-kill knife attack so that you effectively teleport the last few metres to your target. Provided you hit the key fast enough, there's nothing they can do: you're literally faster than a speeding bullet, and the blow kills anyone regardless of gear. So bind your knife key to something easily accessible, like Alt.

SCAR and TAR
Despite its might in other games, and in reality, the M4 you start with is depressingly feeble. At level 8 you'll unlock the SCAR-H, and this will be your best friend for 12 levels: full damage, great accuracy. At 20 you earn the TAR-21, which on paper looks worse: same damage, half the accuracy. But its rate of fire is ferocious, and the first shot of a burst is still precise. This is your mainstay until the M16 at level 40.

Shut up
Kill 75 people with a gun and you'll earn a Silencer for it. Not many people bother with them because they reduce range, but in practice that's almost never a problem. The plus side is twofold: firing normally lights you up as a blip on enemy's minimaps, and silencers stop that. Secondly, they actually do work: you'd be surprised how often your gunshot and muzzle flash are what get you killed by an unseen opponent.

Take care. Packages.
Don't forget to fiddle with your killstreaks, my grandma used to say. You can only have three equipped at a time, and for some kill streak amounts there's a choice of rewards. Choose the Care Package for 4 kills: a Care Package is an airdrop crate that can contain any other killstreak reward short of a nuclear bomb. That includes the ridiculous AC-130 and Stealth Bomber attacks. If an enemy calls one in, you can also steal theirs.

I'll write up the rest later..... yawn....

I has MW2 for the ps3... campaign cleared on regular and lvl 26 online atm :D

comments:
Assault or light?
well many people like the scar and tar, the light machine guns are actually really useful. the ump45 is honestly amazing until you get the vector or scar, and the vector is better at close range. plus you can get akimbo on light machine guns, which means you can hold two at once and spam everywhere... yay :D the only downside is that you can't scope in.

Shotgun or machine pistol?
the shotgun is good at close range, however the pp2000 and the g18 are the best at lower levels as with the red dot sight they can match the range of an assault rifle, and are pretty much as powerful. however once you can get the higher level shotguns with akimbo, GET IT. akimbo means dual wield, which is honestly the best at close range and most fun thing ever.

Scar to tar
the scar-H is better than the tar in my opinion as you will have most of the good stuff unlocked for it when you get the tar, and I personally HATE the norm scope and pretty much all the other scopes on the tar-21. I reccomend using the silencer on the scar-h quickly to unlock the heartbeat sensor, and then using either red dot-silenced or heartbeat-silenced with bling...

Yo bling
which brings me to bling. it's a perk that allows you to have two attachments to your weapon, which is honestly amazingly useful. you have to choose between scavenger or bling for the scar-h as the scar has such a small amount of ammo, but a lot of people use the scar, which means you can steal their ammo.

Pro skills
every perk has a 'pro' version which upgrades it's effect, a small list is:
stopping power pro: extra damage on vehicles. useful for shooting down harriers as you can take them out with around 160-170 shots of a p90, but you save ammo this way.
commando pro: you don't take falling damage. you can literally jump 50 feet and survive, as long as it's still on the map. very useful for quickly getting around
sleight of hand pro: faster scope in. Surprisingly useful for snipers like the intervention which have slow scopes, and when you want to flash in and out of your scope.
cold blooded pro: your name doesn't appear when people have the crosshairs of their gun on you, which can save you from being noticed by someone turning around.

ummm some things might be different on the ps3 from whatever you use.... but anyways, my contribution... might post more later

in your guide you said to set your knife to something easy to press, like alt, and was just wondering what system you're on

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP.
I set MW2 to lowest graphical settings.
Why do you ask?

Is it just me who noticed this is ripped from PCG?
As for the shut up part, pcg made a misstake: It's not 75 for all guns and some guns doesn't have a silencer.

Anyway, I love to use Scar-H with Grenade launcher / holographic and the vechile lock on only launcher, cause it's the best and takes down everything unlike the last one.
I use stopping power pro, ninja pro, scavenger pro, claymores and stun grenades.

For my runner class I use lightweight pro, marathon pro and Ninja pro. I use desert eagle with tactical knife, and I use the throwing knife and flash grenades. First weapon is the submachine gun TMP.

Yup, I took it from PC Gamer.
Darn, I should have credited them.

Well, they are GOOD, but not the best. for capture the flag, Marathon-Lightweight-sleight of hand with a silencer is amazing,

Cold-Blooded-Pro is required for classes to shoot down air support,

Commando Pro is good on all
etcetera.
