the number two equals one!

Post by crutchfield » Sat Aug 28, 2010 6:17 am

a = x [true for some a's and x's]
a+a = a+x [add a to both sides]
2a = a+x [a+a = 2a]
2a-2x = a+x-2x [subtract 2x from both sides]
2(a-x) = a+x-2x [2a-2x = 2(a-x)]
2(a-x) = a-x [x-2x = -x]
2 = 1 [divide both sides by a-x]

Isn't that weird?
There may be something wrong but i won't say what

I get it. That is kind of wierd, though, but it is supposed to be the original not adding everything up and dividing and such. Two still = two.

Fun fact: it's wrong. the division at the end is impossible

if you divide both sides by a=x isn't it 1=1

7+5t=11t
-5t -5t
7=6t
7/6=t

That would be 7+5t
Right? Because they are not like terms, you cannot combine 7 and 5t
