2 ink cartridges and ms office vanished???

i wanted to print a pic of bioshock 2 for my cd today,and after the repairs a few weeks ago, my mechanic told me" just take off the cartridges and reput them in and they will reset". i didnt do that,i was waiting for a time i'de use the scanner and when i opened it i saw 2 empty ink slots,not even cartridges.i knew i wasnt doing it wrong buti tried to lift parts of it and nothing happened as expected. i went to check if i could still print,so i went to microsoft word to edit the pic but my office was gone?
the last time the printer/scanner was used was when the mechanic or technician w/e printed to test if the printer worked.
are there any physically possible reasons my ink cartridges vanished and pls dont tell me he stole them o.o oh and also where the bbq is my office
