Chapter 1
Here is the second chapter to my series.....
The old man took Poe to a cottage somewhere in the forest. He took care of Poe’s wounds and laid him down on a bed. Poe’s eyes flickered open. “So the sleeper awakens,” says the old man. Poe turns toward him startled.
“Are you the one that saved me?” Poe asked.
“Yes,” replied the old man.
The old man took a cup from a cupboard and pulled out a wand. A flash of light shone from the end of the wand. Poe watched in amazement as the cup filled itself with herbal tea.
“Drink,” he said.
Poe took the cup, glad to have something to drink. His throat was so parched that he forgot the tea was hot. He chugged it down, and did not feel the burning sensation until he had set the cup down.
“Hot, hot, hot,” Poe cried.
The old man chuckled a bit and put the cup back in the cupboard. After a few seconds, Poe recovered from his pain and gathered up enough courage to ask, “Who are you old man?”
“I am Glant the Ancient Wizard,” Glant said.
Poe looked with amazement.
“You, are a wizard?”
“Yes young one.”
Poe opened his mouth to say more, but Glant stopped him with a wave of his hand.
“No time for questions Poe, we need to get to more important matters.”
“It is my turn to ask questions.”
The old man looked tired. His eyes were sagging and there were dark rings under his eyes.
“Look Poe, what happened at the village?”
“I don’t know,” Poe replied.
“Listen Poe, did you have a dream about the village?”
“How did you know?”
“Never mind that, what did your dream show you?” Glant asked.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, did you dream that something was going to happen, and it did?”
“Yes, I dreamed that the village was going to be destroyed, but I thought it was just a dream.”
Poe looked around the room trying to find an exit for him to make a run for it. He did not feel comfortable being questioned. He saw an exit and was about to jump off the bed toward it, Glant spoke.
“Just as I suspected,” he said.
Poe thought Glant had found out what he was about to do, but he was wrong.
Glant said, “Poe, you are a Dreamer.”
“A what?”
“A Dreamer, someone who can dream about future events.”
Poe looked so confused that Glant decided to explain farther.
“Poe, have you heard the tale about four people with powers that were chosen to save the world?”
“Yea, it’s called Questers,” replied Poe.
“Well, the only thing is that it is not a tale, but a prophecy,” said Glant.
“What?!”
“Yes, and you are one of the four.”
Poe was shocked. How was he, a mere boy, one of the four of a tale?
“Mr. Glant, I can’t be one of the four, I am only a boy.”
“You have to face your destiny Poe, the Darkness is coming.”
“Those soldiers you saw are not any average soldiers.”
“Then what kind of soldiers are they?” Poe asked.
“They are the Darkness’ minions,” answered Glant.
“They are very hard to kill.”
“Then how do I get my revenge?” Poe said angrily.
“That is why you are not going to search for them unprepared.”
Glant stood up and beckoned Poe to follow him. Glant lead Poe down to the basement of his cottage. They took a long passageway down a hall and appeared in front of a door. Glant put a hand on the door, and it swung open. Inside it was just a plain room with no furniture.
“You brought me all the way here to a empty room?” Poe asked puzzled.
“I brought you here to give you what you need,” replied Glant calmly.
Glant brought out his wand a out of nowhere, a Stormcaster Glove, Pink Adventurer Cape, and a Blue Screamer appeared on the floor next to Poe. Poe looked astonished.
“Are these really for me?” Poe asked.
“Didn’t I say I wasn’t going to let you fight those minions empty handed?” replied Glant.
Poe tried on the clothes, and hooked the Blue Screamer to his back.
“Now you are ready to battle the Darkness’ minions.”
Glant led Poe to an emergency exit. Poe reached for the handle, but before he pushed, Glant said to him,
“Listen to your dreams Poe, dreams can tell you many things since you are a Dreamer.”
“Find the other three as soon as possible, and when the four of you come together, go find Areus, he will explain farther about your destiny.”
“I will Glant,” said Poe.
Poe stepped out into the forest just to see the sun come up, a start of a new day.
